Rode over to Alto Pass Illinois with D.C. and Mary Watts from Manitou to the Blessing of the bikes.
About 300 miles RT.
Only rained on us the last 45 minutes or so of just sprinkles. From Kuttawa on home.
LOTS of bikes up there.
The Blessing took place under the Largest Cross in the USA. (So I was told). It is in very bad shape in need of much repair. But, it was great anyway.
The blessing was done in groups in a circle.
If you got there and they were already praying, you just waited a few minutes and then when they were finished another group formed. Afterwards they gave you a sticker to place on your bike and a wooden cross necklace to take back with you.
On the way up, we stopped at Granny's kitchen in Harrisburg Illinois. Good breakfast there! I was starved by the time we got there and was starting to get a headache. But, after two cups of coffee, a few Tylenol Migraine and a Mucinex, I was starting to feel better a half hour or so later.
We stopped at the Oasis steakhouse in kuttawa on the way home.
Temp was around 48 when we left Manitou and was in the 50's low 60's the rest of the trip. Felt great too. I was bundled up in Layers with a t-shirt, long sleeve shirt, vest, and heavy Leather jacket and wearing chaps to cut the cold wind off.
All in all, great scenery and ride. Roads good most all of the trip.
